FORESTRY AND WILDLIFE TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Forestry and Wildlife will strive to provide high quality training to students who should be able to conserve wildlife and forest resources around the world, working directly with governments, and rural communities who depend on these resources for livelihoods and development. The department therefore will train highly qualified personnel who will subsequently ensure the maintenance of ecological balance by providing basic knowledge of ecosystems and their functional processes to stakeholders; provide information regarding changes that take place due to excess anthropogenic activities in the environment and propose sustainable management solutions; provide skill in using state of the art techniques to analyse various environmental problems and their effects on that life systems; applies economically sound methods and concepts to issues of the environment, management, environmental policy analysis for the sustainable development of Cameroon; apply conservation methods to the study of agriculture and the design of productive agro-systems and livelihoods; Last but not the least, the department will provide skills necessary to seek cutting edge answers to some of the environmental problems from which our planet is facing today. In addition to the University of Bamenda and the College of Technology learning outcome objectives, the Bachelor of Science (combined honours) degree programme seeks to promote the following specific learning outcomes: 1) Advance knowledge of Forestry and Wildlife Management through theory, principles and conservation related conflicts resolution  demonstrate practical skills in data collection, data analysis, data handling, statistics and modelling with a focus on providing evidence for policy formulation and management  provide field skills in wildlife and forest monitoring, surveying, tracking and sampling using modern technology  demonstrate advanced analytical skills for natural population investigation and management  Identify, quantify and assess biodiversity in tropical ecosystems.
